Short Answer Semester End Reflection

Tell me about what you've learned this semester?
This semester I've learned a lot of cool things in the Mac programs.  In Pages I learned how to make an affective brochure.  In Numbers I learned how to enter data into a chart and change how other charts look.  In Photoshop I learned A LOT of cool effects and really enjoyed it.

How could (or have) the things you've done this semester aid you for other classes or other possibilities in your future?
These things I learned can help me in other classes and in the future produce a better presentation, to show that I have knowledge in this subject and can affectively use it.

Which assignment or project was the most challenging? Why?
I thought the most challenging project was the Brochure.  It was really time-consuming and I didn't know how to do a lot of the things in Pages.

Which assignment did you enjoy more than others? Why?
I enjoyed this Showcase project the most because I knew how to do a lot of things in it and I really liked the outcome of the pictures.  I hope I retain this skill so I can use it in the future.

Today...

Today I continued working on my showcase and experimented with making smoke.

First Part of Showcase

Here is the first completed image of my showcase.  I decided to make letters anyways.

Today...

Today I looked for things I could make in my Showcase, first I was wanting to make cool 3-D letters but then I saw some smoke examples and really enjoyed how they look, so when I get home i'm going to experiment more with it.

Adobe Illustrator

I LOVE Illustrator because I've used it all my life.  There's so many cool things you can do!
http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B7uXHkNu--WMNDI5ODUyODQtMmI3OC00YzIyLWFjMTUtYmQ2NzZjMjZkYWUx&hl=en&authkey=CLG7390K

Pixel vs. Vector

Pixel: (aka bitmap or raster) has to do with resolution, the number of pixels determines the resolution, all variations of colour can be represented as a single tone of data, the human eye sees the image with unbroken color transition.

Vector:  defined by mathematical equations, scalable to any size therefore good for printing, constructed from lines, shapes, and curves, can be changed into a pixel file.

Food Me (You Are What You Eat)

Here is a picture of me that I've photoshopped.  In the picture I used tomatoes, chicken, salad, waffles, peanut butter and jelly, banana, and a cinnamon roll.  I enjoyed this project because I got to use Photoshop and edit how the food looks.

Daily Post

Today I had to write an essay over China's bloggers.  Once I finished this I worked on Typography and understand how to make it!  I am working on Typography.

Inside the War Against China's Blogs

I think that this is a really wrong way to get money.  It is just a selfish act to get people to like your product, even if it is terrible, but this is all one-sided.  You may say to yourself "Well it's just a companies opinion" well it is not truly their opinion, it is a paid opinion so people will like their product.  And no, I don't think this is okay because it is not the true opinion of all of the people.  Sure it can be the opinion of some people but it's not the opinion of everyone.  To me this just seems like a greedy way for companies to make money.  They falsely promote their product so consumers will buy it.  This can highly affect the honesty of the blogging world because it is not the blogging world's truths.  These people show that it's okay to lie, thus making all of the information on the blogging world less credible and more questionable.
Say you needed information for a project at school, so you go to "Yahoo Answers" for facts.  All of this may not be the best information because people might have been paid to put that information out there, making your project false.  It also affects the entire internet because if it affects the blogging world, people will get information from blogs and make pages based on this information.  Making you wonder if all of this information is just "paid opinions".  Companies should stop scamming people into thinking their products, and let people decide for themselves.

Second Six Weeks

How productive have you been?
I think I've been pretty productive throughout this six weeks.
How would someone accurately describe your work habits?
I stay on task most of the time but might get a little distracted.
How have these work habits aided or hindered you?
Since I stay on task I get things done, but since I get distracted I don't get it done as quick as I can.
As a result, what have you gained or learned from the past six weeks?
This six weeks I have learned to keep to my work and get work done on time so I don't have to make it up the work next class.

Spectrometry Lab

1. How do you think the Spectrometer works?
I think the spectrometer shows amount of color in light that is reflected back into the spectrometer compared to no color at all.
2. Were there any unexpected results? What were they?
Yes, as the wavelength went up, the sample reading increased.
3. Were there any differences between the different printers?
Yes, there were minor differences in the printers, some printers were more exact with their readings but others were straighter and not as exact.
4. Compare the printed color sheet to the one linked in the blog. What differences due you notice in the RGB display versus the CMYK printout.
The one on the computer had brighter colors, where the one on the print out was dulled.
5. Did you notice the Hex Codes for each color. Would you say Hex codes have more in common with RGB or CMYK? Explain.
It is more similar to RGB because the FF correspond to where the numbers are inputted into the RGB codes unlike the CMYK code.
6. Do you think the use of spectrometry is important for publishers? Why or why not?
Yes because publishers want the colors to be as exact as possible.
7. What sort of consequences may arise if spectrometers were not used in publishing?
The colors will come out ugly looking and not the desired color.

Here is SW's iPhotoed version

And here is my recreation of SW's image

Pretty similar huh?
What I did to make my image similar:
  • Saturation increase

    Google Earth

Today I worked with Google Earth and experienced watching some pre-made tours such as "Apollo".  I never knew that you were able to make tours on Google Earth but now I see that you can.  I wasn't able to make one myself but the Apollo one looked very professional.  It uses video and images to make a "Powerpoint" type presentation.

    What I Did Today

Today I worked on my Itinerary and looked up places and things I could do on the trip.  I also updated my work log and added some pictures.

    Why These Brochures Stood Out

I think these brochures stand out because they have a lot of bright colors and the design is good.  For instance, the Azerbaijan has cool or "radical" title fonts to attract attention and make the brochure look exciting.  Or on some of the other ones fancy lettering was used to make it look like the trip will be elegant and special.

    What I Did Today

Today I worked on my work log and looked at the brochure examples.  I also worked on this post, but that was at the very end of the day.

    Two Best Brochures

Here are the two brochures that I think are the best.  I like the one on the left a lot because its' name is "The Gateway" and the brochures corresponds with the name because it is made like a gate.  I also like the other one because it is colorful but not to crazy with a bunch of pictures and boring text.  The text is also diagonal which makes it different from the other brochures.

    1st Six Weeks Reflection

I am really enjoying this class so far.  I'm always on track and haven't fallen behind yet.  I've learned a lot so far, for instance I now know how to affectively use pages and how to create a blog and avatar for myself.  I might need to use these things later on in the future when I have to create a blog, and create brochures and presentations.

    End of Day Evaluation

I ended up finishing all of my work today including hotlinking my peer's PDFs and my rubric for my PDF.     Today was fairly easy because I just had to follow the directions, and they were pretty clear.

I think his/her plan is good because I like how he/she incorporated the pyramids as bullet points instead of normal circles.

Here is another one of the links of a peer of mine.
    https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B6Fp5J_x8_anNTI4OTg3ZGEtZDIwMi00OTQ4LWIyYmQtNTQ0MjcyOTkwN2U5&hl=en&authkey=CLnK2IcJ
I think his/her plan is good because it is very colorful and makes the reader want to read the passages.

Here is the last but not least link of one of my peers.

The process was fairly easy to make a document into a PDF because you just had to simply follow the instructions but the first time I finished I realized that I hadn't done the Bibliography so I had to go back, finish the Bibliography and needed Free images.  Once I finished those I followed the instructions again and posted it here.

    Italy Rough Draft

    Italy

In my project for Multimedia I will be doing Italy.  I think this project will be kind of hard even tough I have worked with Word before.  It seems like it will be fun though because it is covering a country I want to go to.

What You Need to Know Before We Begin

1- What is plagiarism? Any good reasons to avoid it?
Plagiarism is taking credit for someone else's work, a good reason to avoid it is that you can get in trouble and you aren't doing your own work.2- What citation format are we using for this project?
We are using standard in-text format.3- Create a citation for your 'Works Cited' page of two websites you might use on your project.
Italy. Italian Government Tourist Board. Web. 15 Sept. 2010. <http://www.italiantourism.com/>.
Italy Travel. Italy Travel Guide. Web. 15 Sept. 2010. <http://www.justitaly.org/>.
    1- What is stock photography?
Stock photography is a group of pictures used instead of using a photographer.
2- Why can't we just use random images off google?

Because they are copyrighted and we aren't allowed to use them without the owners position.
1- What does it mean for an image to be Public Domain?
They are items are works that currently have no intellectual property rights within the country of your residence.
2- Post a picture you found off a stock photography or public domain site on your blog.

3- Write the citation for this photo.

Dreamstime. PACA and CEPIC. Web. 15 Sept. 2010. <http://www.dreamstime.com/search.php?srh_field=platypus&referrer=140233&x=0&y=0>.

    Netiquette

Scenario #1 – A student sends a harassing e-mail to another student. The receiving student
retaliates with a “flaming e-mail.” Is this the appropriate response? If not, what would be?

No it is not appropriate.  The right thing to do would be to tell a parent or teacher and let them deal with it.
Scenario #2 – When hanging out with friends, one of the students makes a call on their cellphone and carries on a conversation while still within the group. Is this ok? Why or why not?

No because it isn't polite.  You should say something like "Hey guys I have to talk to someone, it's urgent" and be polite about it.

Scenario #3 – A student logs on to a free file sharing website and downloads a song they just heard on the radio. Is this ok? Why or why not?

No because he/she should pay for the song because it's stealing if you don't pay for a copyrighted song.

Scenario #4 – A student follows a questionable link to a website and downloads a malicious script which releases a Trojan Horse virus on to the school network. Is the student to blame? Why or why not?

Yes, I thin he is to blame because he knew it was questionable and should have as someone first.

Scenario #5 – An hour before class, a student remembers that a writing assignment is due. The student goes to the library, logs on to a website, and copies/pastes the information. Is this ok? Why or why not?

No because that's plagiarism and should have done the work on his own time and not an hour before class.

Scenario #6 – At home, a student uses a software package to copy movies and games from DVD’s for his or her friends. Is this within fair-use laws? Explain.

No it is not within the laws because he is basically giving away pirated discs which are illegal.

Scenario #7 – A student logs into the school website to download the syllabus they lost. Are they breaking any rules or laws? Explain.

No they aren't because if the school put the syllabus online they put it up there for the use of the children.

Scenario #8 – Students spend a good amount of time in class creating a web page for a school sponsored fundraiser. However, there website is not usable by certain individuals with disabilities. Was this disrespectful or wrong of them?

Well it wouldn't be disrespectful if they didn't do it on purpose, but if they did then yes it was very disrespectful because they didn't include everyone.

Why do you think netiquette is important? Why are we suing part of our class time for this?

I think it is important because it helps people be more polite with others.  We are suing part of this class to mae sure that we are being polite and using correct manners.

    Pages

Today I had to explore the Apple program Pages.  I learned a few things about Pages because I already now how to use it.  It is fairly easy to use because it is so similar to Word but just a mac version.  I learned how to import a picture however, which will be very useful for later experiences with Pages.  Other than that I new most things about Pages.

I thought that both of the avatar sites were very entertaining.  I used the meez site as a gadget but I will probably include the other one because it can talk.  They were pretty easy to use, you just had to follow the intsructions given and you will get a very funny/realistic avatar.  Now I have a very funny (but ind of messed up) avatar.

Here's My First Super Dee Duper Dee Super Duper Entry For You

Exploring the mac...I thought the process was fairly easy because i have a mac and know where most things are.  Setting up the blog was also easy because i set up a blog on blogger last year.
